The National HIDTA Program
Created
by Congress in 1988, the High Intensity Drug
Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program is a grant program administered by the Office
of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) at the White House. The HIDTA Program
coordinates and assists Federal, State, Local, and Tribal law enforcement
agencies to address regional drug threats with the purpose of reducing drug
trafficking and drug production in the United States. The HIDTA program
oversees 33 regional HIDTAs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the United States
Virgin Islands, and the District of Colombia. A map of these HIDTAs is provided
below.

About the Office of National Drug Control
Policy (ONDCP)

https://www.whitehouse.gov/ondcp/
The Office of National Drug Control Policy
is a component of the Executive Office of the President.
Mission and Priorities
ONDCP leads and coordinates the nation’s
drug policy so that it improves the health and lives of the American people.
MISSION
ONDCP is responsible for the development
and implementation of the National Drug Control Strategy and Budget. ONDCP coordinates across 19 federal
agencies and oversees a $43 billion budget as part of a whole-of-government
approach to addressing addiction and the overdose epidemic. ONDCP also provides
hundreds of millions of dollars to help communities stay healthy and safe
through the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program and the Drug-Free
Communities program.
PRIORITIES
The overdose crisis is an urgent priority
for the Biden-Harris Administration. ONDCP works together with federal
agencies, Congress, and communities across the country to reduce overdoses and
save lives. The Administration’s inaugural National Drug Control Strategy outlines four near-term actions to prevent drug
overdoses and poisonings:
- Expand access to
naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal medication
- Increase access to
substance use treatment
- Disrupt drug trafficking
operations
- Improve collection
of timely and consistent drug policy data

The
Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Drug Control Data Dashboard
The
ONDCP Drug Control Data Dashboard was mandated by Congress and provides a
machine-readable and interactive collection of drug data from many sources.
ONDCP compiles these data from primary data sources and works with data source
agencies and organizations to regularly update the Dashboard. The Dashboard
provides users the ability to search topics by year, agency, drug, and, to a
limited degree, geographic location. Although data are available for many
specific drug topics, some are incomplete or dated and in need of new or
updated data and research.
