"Stop Drugs Corpus Christi" website launched by local, state, federal agencies

Law enforcement is targeting illegal drug activity in our area through a new website.

The website is stopdrugscorpuschristi.org. It allows the public to log on and provide anonymous tips on drug crimes they spot in their neighborhoods.

"The greatest resource police officers have at any level is citizen support," Corpus Christi Assistant Police Chief Mark Schauer says. "We don't get to first base without you, and the website is for you to communicate directly with us."

The website was created by a federally funded program called the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, or HIDTA. Nearly 20 agencies make up the panel based in Houston, including the Corpus Christi Police Department.

While explaining why the website is needed, HIDTA Houston chair Brian Moskowitz said, "The things that make this a great place to live and work and raise our families ... also, unfortunately, make it an area ripe for exploitation by drug trafficking organizations."

The site goes beyond the criminal aspect. It also serves a resource for drug prevention and treatment. The Palmer Drug Abuse Program is one of the centers included.

"We like to be a part of the process also. Not always just the incarceration part, but the part where we help families heal," PDAP Program Manager Frank Janousek explains about the partnership. "So this gives more access to the community that we work in."

Changes will be coming to the website in the weeks ahead ... but you can click here to learn more and submit tips to authorities.
