Two were arrested Thursday, and one person is at-large after Corpus Christi narcotics officers seized more than 15 pounds of synthetic cannabanoids from their apartment.

The Narcotics and Vice Division arrived about noon Thursday in the 3500 block of Cottonwood Street to execute a search warrant on an apartment. Officers saw a man leave the apartment carrying two large trash bags and leave in a vehicle, said Lt. Curtis Abbott.

A uniformed canine officer said he saw the man conduct a drug deal in a parking lot at Weber Road and Gollihar Road and pursued him. At that point, the man drove off and abandoned the car at Copus Street and Crane Street, Abbott said.

Inside the vehicle, officers found the bags filled with synthetic drugs and a large amount of cash, Abbott said. The man fled on foot, but he left a red T-shirt behind, he added.

Back at the apartment, officers found more synthetic cannabanoids which led to the arrest of two men who lived there on suspicion of manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance.

The man who ran away was identified by his vehicle records and witness statements, and officers are working to obtain an arrest warrant for him, Abbott said.

A law recently went into effect which made the sale of more than 0.14 ounces of synthetic cannibanoid a felony offense, said Lt. Tommy Nichols.

"It's gone from a charge that two years ago, we wouldn't even have made an arrest for," Nichols said.

The investigation into the apartment derived from neighbor complaints and tips submitted to the website, said Capt. Donnie Mersing.
